The rich tropical city of north east mindanao also called as the "Gateway" is a true place for island hopping and surfing.
But Surigao city has always been taken for granted by the breath taking beaches located nearby, mind you this province has the cheapest sea food and tropical fruits I ever known.
If your planning to take the two hour direct flight from manila to city airport of surigao just be aware of the weather since domestic flight providers use small aircrafts, it might cause you a bumpy ride which is not very comfortable. Or else take the flight from manila to butuan with a bigger aircraft but will consume extra two more hours for land travel.
You will never regret staying in the city for a day before going to the famous Siargao island. I suggest staying at the Tavern Hotel for best accessibility it is located at Surigao boulevard where Island ferries going to siargao can be found.
City of surigao is not that big but will entertain you during your stay.
For sea food lovers Surigao is the best place. If you love Scallops like I do then treat your self here. In Manila restaurants scallops normally ranges from 200 to 300 Php which consists of eight pieces shells, but in Surigao city, you'll get fed up
by your 200 php worth of scallop. Also the only place I've known that serves sizzling scallops. It is really a must try. I recommend Ocean bounties located within the vicinity of Surigao public market if you are looking for a sea food treat that is classy but cheap in price
